Caring, child-friendly healthcare from newborns to teenagers — from fevers, infections and allergies to growth, nutrition, vaccination and development — with qualified paediatricians and on-site laboratory support.
The Paediatrics department at Apollo Clinic Shyamnagar looks after the health of infants, children and adolescents. Children are not simply small adults — their bodies, immunity, growth needs and the way illness shows up are all different, and the right care depends on knowing what is normal at each age.
Our paediatricians take a careful history from parents and, wherever possible, from the child too, and examine gently before recommending any test or medicine. Treatment is kept as simple and as safe as the condition allows, and parents are given clear guidance on what to do at home, what to watch for and when to come back.
Childhood health also covers growth, nutrition, sleep, learning and emotional wellbeing. Being part of a multispeciality clinic means these connections are looked at together, and concerns that need another specialist's input can be coordinated without the family having to start over.
Consultations are supported by relevant investigations available through our Laboratory department:
| Service | What It Is Used For |
|---|---|
| Paediatric Consultation | Clinical evaluation of fever, cough and cold, stomach upset, rashes, allergies and other illnesses in infants, children and adolescents |
| Newborn & Infant Care | Check-ups, feeding and weight-gain guidance, jaundice review, colic and sleep advice, and support for new parents in the early months |
| Growth & Development Monitoring | Tracking height, weight and developmental milestones over time, and identifying delays or concerns early |
| Immunisation Guidance | Advice on the recommended vaccination schedule, catch-up plans for missed doses, and vaccines for school entry or travel |
| Blood & Urine Tests for Children | Complete blood count, inflammatory markers, haemoglobin, vitamin D, thyroid profile, urine tests and other relevant investigations, available through our Laboratory department, used to find the cause of fever, anaemia, poor growth or recurrent infections |
| Nutrition & Diet Counselling | Practical guidance for fussy eaters, underweight or overweight children, weaning, and healthy eating through school years |
The list below covers what we see most often. If your child's concern is not listed, it does not mean we cannot help — please call the clinic or book a consultation and our paediatrician will advise.

Fever is the body's response to infection and is often not dangerous by itself. Any fever in a baby under three months should be seen promptly. In older children, seek medical attention if the fever lasts more than two to three days, is very high, or comes with unusual drowsiness, refusal to feed or drink, persistent vomiting, breathing difficulty, a rash, a seizure or severe pain. How the child looks and behaves matters more than the number on the thermometer.
No. Most coughs, colds and sore throats in children are caused by viruses, which antibiotics do not treat. Antibiotics are prescribed only when a bacterial infection is likely, and using them unnecessarily can cause side effects and make them less effective later. Rest, fluids and symptom relief are often all that is needed, and your paediatrician will advise which applies.
In most cases, no. Vaccination schedules can usually be resumed from where they were left, using a catch-up plan, without restarting the series. Bring your child's vaccination card to the clinic and the paediatrician will work out which doses are due and how to space them.
Fussy eating is very common in toddlers and young children and often does not affect growth. What matters is whether your child is growing steadily along their own curve, has good energy and is developing normally. A paediatric check-up with growth measurements can reassure you, or identify problems such as anaemia or nutritional deficiency early, and you will be given practical feeding advice either way.
Children develop language at different paces, but it is worth getting an evaluation if your child is not using any meaningful words by around 15 to 18 months, is not combining words by two years, does not respond to their name or to sounds, or seems to lose skills they once had. Early assessment, including a hearing check where needed, makes any support far more effective.
Do not wait for an appointment if your child has difficulty breathing, a seizure, bluish lips, extreme drowsiness or unresponsiveness, signs of severe dehydration, a stiff neck with fever, or has swallowed something harmful. Call the emergency number 112 or go to the nearest hospital emergency department straight away.
Gentle, trusted care for your child at Apollo Clinic, Shyamnagar — with diagnostics, treatment and follow-up in one place.
