Kidney, bladder, prostate and urinary tract care under one roof — accurate diagnosis, minimally invasive treatment where possible, and structured follow-up, with qualified urologists and on-site diagnostics.
The Urology department at Apollo Clinic Shyamnagar manages conditions affecting the kidneys, ureters, bladder, prostate and male reproductive system. Urinary complaints are often the visible sign of something that needs proper evaluation — a burning sensation may point to infection, blood in urine needs investigation to rule out stones or growths, and slow urine flow in older men is frequently linked to prostate enlargement rather than something to simply live with.
Every consultation starts with a clinical assessment and history, followed by the specific tests needed to reach a diagnosis — blood work, urine tests, imaging or a flow study, depending on the complaint. You will be told what the likely cause is, what the treatment options are, and what to expect.
Being part of a multispeciality clinic helps here, since urological complaints often connect to other systems — diabetes and hypertension affecting kidney function, endocrinology for hormone-related issues, and our on-site laboratory and imaging for the workup this specialty depends on.
Most urological complaints can be evaluated on-site, with results usually available the same day:
| Test | What It Is Used For |
|---|---|
| Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) | Blood test used to screen for and monitor prostate enlargement and prostate conditions, usually advised for men over 50 or with urinary symptoms |
| Kidney Function Tests | Blood test (creatinine, urea, electrolytes) that checks how well the kidneys are filtering waste, important in stone disease, infection and long-term monitoring |
| Testosterone & Hormone Panel | Blood test for low energy, reduced libido, erectile difficulty or suspected hormonal causes of urological symptoms |
| KUB X-ray | X-ray of the kidneys, ureters and bladder, commonly used to detect certain types of urinary stones |
| Ultrasound (USG – KUB) | Imaging of the kidneys, ureters, bladder and prostate to check for stones, swelling, blockage, or prostate enlargement |
| Uroflowmetry | Measures the strength and pattern of urine flow, used to assess prostate enlargement and other causes of obstructed or weak urine flow |
The list below covers what we see most often. If your concern is not listed, it does not mean we cannot help — please call the clinic or book a consultation and our urologist will advise.

PSA testing is generally advised for men over 50, or earlier if there is a family history of prostate conditions or you have urinary symptoms such as weak flow, frequency or night-time urination. Your doctor will interpret the result alongside your symptoms and examination, since a raised PSA has several possible causes.
Blood in urine should always be evaluated, even if it happens only once and painlessly. Common causes include infection and stones, but it needs to be properly investigated with urine tests and imaging to rule out other causes. Please do not ignore it or wait for it to happen again.
It is a simple, non-invasive test where you urinate normally into a measuring device that records the flow rate and pattern. It takes only a few minutes and helps assess whether there is an obstruction, commonly from prostate enlargement in men.
Smaller stones often pass on their own with hydration and medication, and are monitored with periodic imaging. Larger or obstructing stones usually need a procedure. Our urologist will advise the right approach based on the stone's size, position and your symptoms, with referral for procedures such as lithotripsy where needed.
Not always — it can also relate to fluid intake habits, diabetes, or certain medications, though prostate enlargement is a common cause in older men. A proper evaluation, including uroflowmetry and relevant blood tests, helps identify the actual cause rather than assuming one.
